Cumberland Gap TN to Clinch Mountain- This section of the byway is steeped in history.  Plan your trip to include stops in downtown Cumberland Gap, an arts-based community in the shadows of Pinnacle Peak.  Walk the trails, visit a black smith, or simply stroll the town.  Nearby is the Lincoln Museum, which features Civil War displays and Norris Lake, a popular destination for family vacations, fishing, and boating. The portion of the Scenic Byway between Cumberland Gap and Tazewell is suitable for road biking.  Other road biking options include US58 towards Lee County, VA and connecting in Harrogate to the Cumberland National Scenic Byway along SR 63 west.

The top of Clinch Mountain offers a breathtaking view of Cherokee Lake at Veteran’s Overlook, an area developed by and for Veterans. The Clinch Mountain Restaurant is a must, offering their famous vinegar pie and a variety of daily specials. Across Highway 25 you can take a walk down the Old Wilderness Road. At the base of the mountain is the Town of Bean Station which features a Civil War Museum next to a walking park located at the Town Hall.

Situated in the center of the byway between Cherokee and Douglas Lakes, you’ll find Morristown, Tennessee’s Disc Golf Capital™. Boating, fishing, mountain biking, hiking, disc golf, and camping are just a few of the activities that beckon.  Anchored by the farmers market pavilion and downtown green to the south and Rose Center for the Arts to the north, the historic district includes the one-of-a-kind elevated sidewalks on Main with a multitude of unique shops and boutiques as well as a craft brewery. The city welcomes over 500 disc golfers from around the country every June for the Tennessee Disc Golf Championships.

The East TN Crossing Byway traces its way through the pastoral town of White Pine in Jefferson County, TN.  This historic and charming southern town has unique shopping and dining experiences and is surrounded by rolling countryside.  You’ll also travel through the quaint golfing community of Baneberry that sits on the shores of Douglas Lake.  Close by you can learn more about a certain famous secret family recipe at the Bush’s Visitor Center and walk along the streets of historic Dandridge, the second oldest town in Tennessee that is situated in the foothills of the Great Smoky mountains.

Begin your journey in “The Adventure Side of the Smokies”, the home to the Cherokee National Forest, the only national forest in Tennessee, one national park and three rivers.  Adventurists are drawn to this area to paddle one of the oldest rivers in the world, hike to waterfalls, and sample moonshine.
